OUR STORY

Planted downtown.

Growing deep.

For over three decades, we've been a small family church with a big love for the inner city of San Antonio.

Who We Are

A Bible-based, Christ-centered family.

Alamo City Church of Christ was planted in 1989 by John Massie with a simple conviction: downtown San Antonio deserved a church that would respond compassionately to the needs of the city. What began as a home Bible study in John and Earlene Massie's living room became a congregation — and later, a beloved, colorful church home just steps from the students of San Antonio College.

Because downtown real estate is expensive, we've rented, renovated, and moved more than once. Today we own and operate out of a small, proudly-colorful building with rooms painted light blue, purple, red, and green — because a living church should feel alive.

We're small. We're multi-racial. We're rooted in Scripture. And we believe every person who walks through our door — student, neighbor, traveler, or first-time visitor — is someone Jesus loves.

About Us | Alamo City Church of Christ
Our Journey

Thirty-plus years of showing up downtown

The short version of a long story of faithfulness in the heart of the city.

1989

Planted by John Massie to fill a spiritual vacuum in inner-city San Antonio. Begins as a home Bible study at John and Earlene Massie's house.

1990s

The young congregation grows and begins renting space downtown, committed to staying rooted where the people are — not fleeing to the suburbs.

2000s

Launch of outreach ministries — prison ministry, homeless ministry, and the beginnings of a dedicated student center for the young adults next door at San Antonio College.

2010s

The church purchases and rehabs its current building on the San Antonio College campus — a student-focused ministry space painted in the bold, colorful palette we still call home.

Today

A multi-racial, Bible-centered family of believers preserving decades of teaching through a new Bible Learning Center and continuing to reach downtown — one neighbor, one student, one soul at a time.
